Idiom Infographics

Access scholars not only sharpened their language skills but also their digital media and ICT literacy skills in this fun, interactive, highly collaborative Group Idiom Infographic Task

In this lesson, Access scholars worked in small groups to create their own infographics that feature English idioms.

First, they watched an informative Youtube video that introduced them to the meaning and use of Infographics in today's social media driven world.

Then, they were informed about the expected output which is an English Idiom Infographic. This activity is an enrichment task after their vocabulary development and oral communication lesson on idiomatic expressions last meeting. Each group (composed of five members) were given a list of idioms, which are already categorized according to the meaning.  The challenge was for each group to create an Infographic that would present the idioms in a visually stimulating way. They were also instructed to use the idioms in meaningful and correct sentences.

They watched another video tutorial on how to create infographics using Powerpoint software.

After watching, they started working together as each members takes a specific role such as Powerpoint designer, image researcher, writer, encoder and layout artist.

Jazzing Up Communication Skills with Idioms

Access scholars jazz up their communication skills by learning American idioms. First, they watched a Youtube video entitled "Idioms Songs." While viewing the material, students accomplished a graphic organizer where learners note down the idioms presented as well as the expressions' meanings.

After the class discussion on the meaning of idioms and the importance of knowing and using them to improve one's English communication skills, the teacher asked the learners to work in small groups and do the Idiom Presentation Task.

The teacher gave each group an infographic containing a list of idioms with their meanings. See the infographics used in this activity by clicking this link from GrammarNet.com.

Then, they were asked to think of a situation where these idioms can be used. Students were also instructed to present a creative and entertaining skit or roleplaying which present the situations where  the given idioms can be applied.

See their outputs and presentations on the gallery below!
