This afternoon, we received a package from US Embassy Manila, and we were thrilled to see authentic, high interest Scholastic Magazines in it!

Access teachers immediately brainstormed on a lesson that will utilize the learning materials. It was not difficult since the package also included lesson guides.
In this lesson, Access scholars sharpened their reading comprehension skills as they worked on a group reading response task. They were divided into small groups and instructed to choose one feature article in Scholastic Magazine that they found highly interesting. Then, they were asked to respond to the text by collaboratively discussing their impressions, connections, and reflections on the central message of the article.

They demonstrated their appreciation and critical understanding of the text by writing a group letter to the author. They also presented and shared their outputs in class. Soar high, Access scholars!

This was really a fun-learning activity. We have read "The Horror of Nazi Germany" and we realized that we're very lucky for not experiencing that very tragic moment that triggered the whole world. Like what we wrote to Ms. Kristin Lewis, it was like an eye-opener for us.
