Day 1: Access scholars played games, solved puzzles and worked out solutions to environmental problems.

Day 2: Access scholars watched 11th Hour (2007), a documentary about climate change. They, then created a visual organizer that showed the causes, effects and solutions to climate change.

Day 3: Access scholars participated in a Clean-Up project to a mangrove island known as Sitio Pulo in Tanza, Navotas City. They had to walk 1km and ride a boat to reach the place.

Day 4: Access scholars created  an Earth Day Origami Poster to promote environmental protection and proper waste management.

Day 5: Access scholars created their own environmental youth group with specific objectives, projects and activities.

  3. April 13 to 17 were the dates of our very first Intensive training in English Access Microscholarship Program. It was held at our school, Navotas National High School. The theme was Access Scholars: Stewards of the Planet. It was about environmental issues, environmental awareness, and conservation and protection of our nature. We had lots of activities these past few days. It was indeed tiring and mind-challenging but we, the Access Scholars, managed to produce meaningful and presentable outputs within a given amount of time. I have gained another knowledge and realized that we, as protector of nature, should fulfill our duties with our whole heart, mind, and strength because if we won't care for our own resources, who else will? The change should initiate on ourselves. With our own simple ways, we can contribute to a better and fruitful tomorrow. I really enjoyed having time together with my classmates and teachers. I am looking forward for more fun and interesting activities like this. Thank you U.S. Embassy for giving us this another big opportunity. And also to our dear teachers, for supporting us every step of our way. God bless us!

  4. Last week,we had our Intensive training in Access Program. There were lots of activities we've done in the whole week but we really had fun. When I heard that the theme was about environmental issues, I thought it was boring. But I was wrong. I realized that our planet, earth is very sick and it's needing a cure coming from us and it's good to feel that our little contribution can help curing our planet. I just want to thank the Access Program, our teachers and city officials for giving us the chance to help in a way we can.

  5. Last week, we had our first Intensive English Summer Camp as Access Scholars. For me it was a different session of the class because it engaged our mental, emotional, and physical activities. It did rely on our strength and determination. Since it was an intensive session, we had to really focus and gladly, we were able to do the activities intended for it. I could also say that the sessions we had this summer were strange because we both got tired but had fun. To sum it up, I learned a lot from these sessions. Our focus was on environmental problems/issues and with their possible solutions. I really loved it when we rode on a boat and we were surrounded by the waters. We also saw fishes and we laughed because it was too cute. But as a lesson, as Paul Hawken said in a video that we had watched, "The only thing that makes us human is not human." Those were the words that rang the bell in my heart because sometimes I felt there's no hope especially when it comes to our nature, since WE made it miserable. But still, we have to do our best and just support, but join in environment-related activities.

  6. We spent a week in our school for our first Access Intensive Program. For the whole week, we discussed about Environmental Protection And Conservation. I gained a lot of facts about our nature and it made me realized how much destruction we bring to our environment. It gives me the drive to love and serve our world through my own little works. This whole intensive training was so awesome! I just don't learn but the program also gave me the opportunity to apply all what I've learned through the coastal clean-up that we attended. Looking forward for more earth saving activities like this! We, the access scholars, are really the stewards of our planet!

  7. The Intensive Summer Camp made us more aware of the happenings in our community; I didn't realize that the Earth is in grave condition for a long time and we, people, are the main reason of it. My favorite part of the training is the Coastal Clean-up in Sitio Pulo, it gave me and the other Access scholars a time to be with nature and to reflect on it. I am so grateful to be able to help in our own little way. Also, the film entitled 'The 11th Hour' was so disturbing; I hope all people will be able to watch it so that more people will be encouraged to save the Earth.

  8. Last week, we had our Intensive Summer Session, it taught me how to be more responsible and a nature lover, aside from that this summer session taught us on what is our role in environment as a youth and the value of having a healthy environment. The whole week was a great experience for us, scholars because were able to make projects that will help to solve the problems of our environment. One of my best experience in the whole week was the clean-up project in Sitio Pulo because were able to help in the way we can.I realized that the change should start in ourselves because environment is part of our daily lives. Let's save our environment.

  9. Last week, we had our Intensive Summer Camp. Our topic is all about the Role Of Youth On Environment. It talks about how we can protect our environment not just in a simple ways but also through service learning like what we did in Sitio Pulo, Tanza. It was very incredible. I was learned more about environment, how wonderful our nature, and how great is our God he made all. Now, I realize that God created earth and everything in it. The earth does not belong to man. Man belongs to earth. What belongs to earth belongs to God. Man is only the steward of God's creation. So, we should take good care of God's creation. Everything on this earth changes. Let us be wise so we could decide which changes are destructive and healthful. Let us choose to make only beneficial changes. We can act to lessen the impact of harmful changes. By saving the earth, you save your life and that in future generation. The future depends on the wise ecological choices today. The choices we make today and how we use land and water resources will have enormous consequences on the future sustainability of earth's ecosystem and the services they provide. We can help preserve the treasure of nature. I hope all people will realize the situation that our environment facing and encourage them to save our earth for the sake of our life and the future generation.
